“The journey to this place had been treacherous and we saw the atrocities of war at every turn. The conflict had been raging for so long, that many people had given up on the idea of peace. Our city had become too hostile and dangerous and our only option was to flee. Five of us set out but two had perished on the first night. Wiped out by lethal sniper fire as we tried to cross the city perimeter fence unseen. My two remaining companions and I escaped into the dense vegetation with very few provisions or means by which to defend ourselves.

On those first few nights huddled together under the haunting trees, we would pass around the picture of our dreamlike destination. A bridge leading to a sanctuary, displayed on a poster we had found on one of our city scavenger runs. It promised safety, provision and most of all hope. Today is the day we find out.”
