Created from a single spark of light in total darkness. Dispersed through a prism and projected onto a digital sensor for capture.
One of the few pieces in the collection in which I purposely leaked ambient light into an otherwise completely darkened room. I wanted to heighten the energy of this piece, almost like steam billowing up from a kettle.
Shot in Los Angeles, CA on 11/19/18.
On July 4th, 2018, my urge to make new visual art had boiled over. I had been enduring a difficult time, and doing what I truly loved felt like essential therapy. As a photographer and filmmaker, I wanted to return to the basics. For me, that meant creating with light itself. Working in total darkness, I would see microcosms of light explode onto my monitor. This sparked a sense of wonder that continues to inspire my work today. This is the collection that started the journey.
