The continuation of life on Earth depends critically on trees. In addition to producing the oxygen we breathe and purifying the water we drink, they also serve as home for a staggering array of plant and animal species.

The Earth would seem drastically different if there were no trees. Many plant and animal species would become extinct, the water supply would become less plentiful, and the air would be much less pure. We would spend far less time on Earth as it would become increasingly uninhabitable for humans.

A Yale University study estimates that there are three trillion trees in the world. We can anticipate that Earth will have no trees at all by the year 2319 because about 10 billion trees per year are lost.
