This is a young girl from the Raika community of Rajastan. Raikas, the Camel herding community is an integral part of Pushkar festival. As a young girl growing up in a herding community, she has the ease with the Camels which was visible in the way she communicates with them even with the slightest tilt of her hands or head. The Raikas are with their animals from the time they are born until they die. Since camels have a lifespan of 50 years, some of them might outlive their owner. And Raikas are surrounded by more animal than humans. But the kindness, love and humanity is never less. In the earlier days, the Raikas only sold the male camels for an income. They sold the camels annually at the pushkar festival.Due to social, economical and political issues, the lives of Raikas are being altered and pushed out of their grazing lands.
