This moment was the first time in my life seeing a Sperm Whale, a life long dream that was realised in the beautiful coastal town of Kaikoura in New Zealand.

The year was 2017 and after attempting this voyage a few years before without success, the time was right to try again and hope that I could witness these beautiful guardians of the sea with my own eyes.

The sea was calm, the morning mist was dissipating and the sun was shining .. an absolute dream day to be whale watching and out on the water.

Not long after we left the Kaikoura Harbour I finally got to see my first Sperm Whale. This beautiful giant had been relaxing in the water after a big dive, and we just happened to arrive as it took its last breath before diving down not to be seen for another hour when it surfaced again.

Talk about dreams! I have since been out again 3 times to photograph the whales but this moment is a special one and I'm so happy for it to belong on the blockchain forever.
