Portstewart Strand

Sweeping along the edge of Ireland's North Coast, this two miles stretch of golden sand is known for being one of the most visited, spectacular and pristine beaches in Northern Ireland.

Portstewart Strand is protected by the National Trust, in honour of its historical significance and inherent beauty, as well as to protect the native wildlife, wild flora, fauna, grasslands and dunes.

I created this image back in the summer of 2020, whilst on a family holiday. My family enjoy this beautiful part of the country, but I purposely planned this trip with the aim of capturing an image I would be happy to put on my wall.

On this particular evening, I had the pleasure of witnessing one of the most spectacular sunsets I had ever seen. The vibrant colours in the sky, sparkled on the water below.

I composed this scene, because I loved how the groynes stretched out in to the sea, until they where completely submerged in water.

The long exposure enabled me to capture movement in the clouds and to create a silky smooth water look, with a beautiful contrast between the light and dark elements in the image.

If you are ever visiting the North Coast of Ireland, this location is definitely one you should add to your itinerary.
