Hot Head (Smoldering Heart) is the first animated video tokenized by Travis LeRoy Southworth. It is based on the physical work of his on canvas titled Hot Head. A special limited edition print of 10 was created as part of the MoCDA “In The Studio” series curated by Fanny Lakoubay. The interview can be read at www.mocda.org/travis-leroy-southworth. Southworth’s artistic process often involves collecting digital bits of detritus from retouched photographs of people. These imperfections and color adjustments become the base materials to construct new portraits in Photoshop. Pixels are pushed and fine layers of color are added, blending remnants of the figure into the background. He later animates these works in After Effects.
