This artwork automatically opens and closes with animation. ”Hyakki” means many monster and Yokai (supernatural and surreal creatures), Ghosts and other supernatural creatures . Immediately after the open emaki, the painting shows the daytime, but it is gradually enveloped in darkness. In an era without lights like today, the night was a treasure trove of imagination and creativity. As the conveniences of civilization brightened the night, people eventually forgot their fear of the night, and the darkness and the imagination of the night began to decline.
