Iceland feels otherworldly because of its severe and uninhabited terrain, with a tenth of the country covered by glaciers.

The country is undergoing a rapid change with global warming causing the ice caps and glaciers to melt rapidly. As they disappear, the ground is being exposed for the first time and acts as another vehicle to absorb heat. This is resulting in faster melting than at any point in the last 200 years.

The Arctic is facing the most dramatic temperature rise in the world, and as a result Arctic states like Iceland are on track to be iceless by 2200, according to NASA.

It’s a constant reminder of the existential threat our world faces from climate change, and the need to take immediate action, because we don’t know what’s on the other side of this.
