After surging north from the Caribbean as a hurricane, Fiona moved toward Eastern Canada making landfall as a post-tropical cyclone that swallowed up homes along the coastline. The collage depicts the devastation done to Port aux Basques, one of the hardest hit towns on the southwest tip of Newfoundland and Labrador. The structures and debris floating offshore try to convey the scope of devastation for the towns 4,000 residents and a battered east coast, who are experiencing the painful, personal impacts of climate change.
Canada’s Prime minister Justin Trudeau said “Unfortunately, the reality with climate change is that there’s going to be more extreme weather events. We’re going to have to think about how to make sure we’re ready for whatever comes at us!” This event signals a change for Canadians to engage and adapt in hopes of offsetting climate changes impacts.
