I took a dive in a world of space exploration, rebuilding humans as AI's, people uploading their minds into so called proxies and human beings bio engineering themselves to live in marine environments. I saw this world come alive while reading the Poseidon's Children book trilogy by Alastair Reynolds, while mixing in my own interests: old scifi movies and my childhood obsession with stories about space exploration. The matriarch, Eunice Akinya, is a space pioneer. She's named The Lion Faced One because she painted the image of a lion on her space helmet when she was younger. This character resonated with me on a personal level. She reminded me of my grandmother, who passed away in 2020. Being 98, she experienced WWII. When our country was occupied by the nazis, she smuggled weapons and and supplies past German checkpoints,. She was pretty fearless and practical to a fault, just like Eunice Akinya. The source material reflects my own ideas. It challenged me to imagine how I would envision a future world, while anchoring it firmly to classical concepts in art, like landscapes and portraits.
