Bhakti means devotion in Sanskrit, one of the oldest languages in the world.
In this piece, i have tried to symbolically capture the joy and elation lovers feel the moment they set eyes upon one another.
This is from a time when phones and internet never existed, when the man of the house stepped out for food, work or war and was away often for months on end. The only memory he had of his woman was some lucky charm, the fragrance of a tasty meal, the scent of a flower that his girl wore on her hair or a memory of her laugh.
There is another aspect to this piece. Mystics in our culture in India steeped in spirituality have always used the symbolism of lovers to portray the inner longing within each of us. A longing to reach the ultimate within. To my limited understanding, this ultimate is a state where the identity of our self or the "I" is no more. I guess we all experience that state - when we sing absolutely, dance, play an instrument, chisel away at a beautiful statue unaware of time, or even solve a math problem with the enthusiasm of a 12 year old. We are at our best when we forget who we are, when we are devoted to what we do, our craft, whatever it may be. When we are in Bhakti.
This piece is my other side, my meditative side. Alive was more of, well, a rock song.
