I captured this image in pursuit of another collection consisting of sign spinners for Liberty Tax who dress in Statue of Liberty costumes to catch the attention of people on corners all over LA during the tax season.
This particular Liberty was more of an expressive dancer than a sign spinner who performed with incredible intensity on the corner of Western and King.
A situation that required me to pull over, park, and position myself for the shot, I had substantial time to witness what seemed like an unending well of energy that spilled into the street while she blasted gospel music from a giant, beat up box speaker that looked like it fell off the back of a pickup truck in 1975.
A busy corner, Liberty danced and bounded about several people who mostly did what they could to ignore her... except for this one woman who waved her off and exclaimed "Que Loca", which made me laugh.

With a sickness I capture moments around me, obsessed by the knowledge that everything's lost.
I believe capturing truth requires the absence of me. My work is a reflection.
