Title: "Silent Wings"
Edition: 1/1
Collection: As The Wheel Turns
License: Extended Editorial
Resolution: 5304 × 7952
Opening on June of 2012, the Seattle Great Wheel is a 175ft ferris wheel that sits on Pier 57 of the Seattle waterfront. During weekends, holidays, and special occasions the wheel lights up the skyline with magical light shows displaying an array of festive colors and patterns. After being featured on local Seattle news broadcasts, I have been affectionally given the nickname "Wheel King". Photographing the wheel brings me happiness and solace - two emotions that I hope are invoked in you while viewing this collection.
I have a goal of photographing the light shows for all the different holidays during the year. Normally, I'm out of town on Valentine's Day, but last year I was home and got lucky with the weather. Some rare, late winter snow blanketed the area, encasing the silence of snow into the scene. I timed the rotation of the wheel so the heart was right side up and during editing was reminded of phoenix wings - hence the title "Silent Wings."
