I created this piece to tell a story about womanhood, trauma, and healing. This anthropomorphic character represents the resilience built through hardship and abuse. We develop coping mechanisms which are sometimes harmful, but always necessary to our survival. I believe strong women have inside themselves a wild beast that leads them to success. Even when the pain is senseless. This illustration speaks about finding comfort in substance consumption and/or work because our pain is disorienting, and we feel the need to hold onto anything that brings gratification and self esteem. We learn to find our value in things outside ourselves because it gives us a sense of control. Forgetting our strongest asset is the beast growing inside of us. The animal that lives in our core and keeps us awake at night, fills us with ideas and ambitions. Roaring when we are voiceless, fighting when we are exhausted.
