Never underestimate the intelligence, expertise and resilience of the other. It can lead to complacency, arrogance, and poor decision making.
The Southern White-rhino is a species that has been under threat for decades. They were almost completely wiped out by hunters in the early 1900s with less than 100 individuals remaining in a single protected area in South Africa. Since then they have bounced back to around 20 000, with numbers now fluctuating due to illegal and senseless poaching. The horns are incorrectly believed to have medicinal uses and are also used as a symbol of high status.
This low key portrait is intended to show the finer details of this beautiful animal and unintentionally brought out a sense of wisdom from him. Many Rhinos in South Africa have now been safely de-horned to deter poachers with the thinking that a hornless rhino is better than no rhino at all. A sad but necessary approach in some areas. Fortunately, this wild soul still wielded his impressive horn. Don’t underestimate him.

A collection of photographs featuring different species of African wildlife, representing the Seven Laws of the Wild, which were passed on to me by mentors during a primitive trail in the Kruger National Park.
They are not only applicable in the wild but in many different aspects of life. The photographs accompanying each law are a visual representation of the concepts being taught and aim to bring a deeper understanding of each law.
