Home for me has held many conflicting ideas and emotions. From feelings of love, belonging, and safety to shame, resentment, and envy. As I mature, so does my concept of home. It has become less of a physical habitat and more of an inner domicile. “projector” is a meditation on the temperament of these spaces, the coping mechanism used within them, and how these spaces have formed me.
I thought it best to leave the literal out during the creation of this work. Each element is intended to symbolically encapsulate the various emotions felt within the inner/outer spaces I call (and have called) home. Crisp bold additions meet decrepit brittle strokes. Wide toothy grins obscure skewed frowns. A detached gaze juxtaposed by one of total surrender. Nothing is quite what it seems to be here, yet it all poses the question: does it need to be? With a home being a place within, guarded by an inner witness, the need to be or do anything dissolves. Rooms of shame, resentment, and guilt are cleansed in the light of awareness, turned pure by a divine gaze unknown to most. Under this eye all are welcome. Under this eye, all are given a seat at the table.
