The Nuns Fire encroaches on Highway 12 between Santa Rosa and Sonoma, October 2017 near the hamlet of Glen Ellen. At the height of the Wine Country Fire Siege, the blaze ripped through open space and homes alike, only stopping at vineyards which miraculously acted as firebreaks despite the drought.

Mobile homes for agricultural workers to opulent residences were all affected, the drought and embers and firestorm indiscriminately continuing its chemical reaction of fire, heat, and fuel. Firefighters were exhausted, worn thin, and battling the fire in friends and families backyards, sometimes wondering if their own houses were still standing.

This frame is more literal than many in the Terra Flamma Collection, but an important marker as it denotes a significant fire siege in the project and shows how far the flames came out of the hills into the valleys during the strong North Wind Event.
