Working at a coffee shop seems like a safe enough job for Dour #008. Sure, there’s a small chance that she might burn herself with hot water or she might scald her eyeballs with the milk frother, but today was different. Nothing could prepare Dour #008 for what happened during her early morning shift.
A customer asked her to get their wallet out of their bag for them, and, never fearing any negative repercussions, Dour #008 did so. This blind trust in humanity, however, backfired (literally) and now her left hand is only a memory. She isn’t too thrilled about the situation, but she doesn’t have any vacation or sick time left to go to the hospital.
You’ve got to hand it to her, though. She’s taking this new reality like a champ.
Misfits. Weirdos. The unfortunate.
These are The Dours.
The Dours are a group of outsiders who haven’t quite figured things out yet. They exist on the fringes of society, but that’s honestly where they thrive best. Inspired by Edward Gorey’s classic book “The Gashlycrumb Tinies,” some of our Dours are met with some rather unfortunate obstacles in their regular daily life.
Does this stop them, though? HELL NO!!!
Despite these adversities, they press on, willfully accepting and pushing past any and all pain they may feel! They’re a reminder that it’s ok to not be ok.
The Dour battle cry is “Fuck no!” which, hopefully, you can adopt as you continue on throughout each dull, dreary day.
