In Brooklyn, I grew up on Lefferts Ave between Rogers and Bedford. I lived with my Mother, Grandmother, and Uncle. My Uncle was an amazing artist and a huge comic book fan; he had stacks in his room. Whenever he would go out, I would go into his room and look at the pictures in the comic books. While I was looking, his window would be open, and the dudes on the block would be blasting Hip Hop and Dancehall music out of their cars which subtly provided ambiance to the images seeping into my imagination, eventually becoming my aesthetic. Celebrating Black History is honoring our personal History; we are the present continuing legacy, so I made this piece in honor of those moments on Lefferts and Rogers, where my Uncle's passion and the music of the block inspired me to embrace my creativity and cultural heritage.
