Ciudad Nezahualcóyotl, or Neza for short, was built on a former lake bed outside of Mexico’s Distrito Federal. Neza one of the largest informal settlements in the world and is the most densely populated community in Mexico. It’s home to well over a million people as well as a thriving cultural scene and economy.
Future Cities began with a misguided idea to find order in the chaos of contemporary urban life.
I spent five years photographing in self-built communities all over the world. This experience taught me that while informal cities may outwardly appear to be ruled by chaos and disorder, they are in fact very organized places that grow almost organically to suit the needs of the people who live in them.
Prints are in IRL museum, public and private collections.
