Some of my favorite areas to explore in Japan are the red-light districts, but those areas are tamer than those that you might experience in other countries. Shinjuku, Tokyo in Japan has such an area that is open all day and night. One does not get the feeling that they are in a red light area since it is strangely very commercialized and 'touristy.' Japan has a different attitude towards topics we may consider taboo in the west. I think everyone should try visiting the country and learning about the different ways they think about certain topics. Before moving abroad, I always thought I was an open-minded individual until I was confronted with such different cultural norms. What a strange area when you think about it, but the truth to the matter is that the shady dealings take place behind the storefronts in hidden conversations. It is a really beautiful area though, which so much to see and to explore which is one of the reasons I love Kabuki-Cho.
