This painting is in recognition to the people who pushed the Invisible Economy forward in 2021. It's style reflects how this year felt to me, messy and full of energy. We felt the bliss of living in the bubble of our new system, the disruption of the NFT wave, and pain as we began to separate from the market. Most of these people spent an insane amount of hours pushing things forward, making sense of it all, manifesting a reality through their art, and helping steward it. Some people served as compasses that guided our path. Others took on big challenges, taking enormous responsibilities for the benefit of everyone. Some fought to protect the community from outsiders, others fought from within for what felt right to them. A few built bridges so we don’t leave anyone behind. All in all, it was an incredible year of growth, filled with wonder, insights, expressions of love and joy. Even in those few those moments in which people screamed in frustration, it came out of caring deeply for what we are doing. We are designing a system while living it, dealing with real people and strong bonds. As Sebnem said, It can’t get more human than this. Their actions were a labor of love, and every action generated movement. Like the portraits on this painting, The Invisible Economy is not perfect, it’s a bit off, but there is truth to it. It captures the soul of a community that is giving its all.
