From the turapa series... Turapa are the lattice artforms that sit between the carved poupou within the ancestral house. Mostly known as tukutuku - the artform is rich in narratives and histories of the iwi (tribal groups). Aramoana is a customary Māori motif that draws on the ocean - it's linear zigzags mimic the waves of the ocean denoting travel and journey. From the greater Moana a Kiwa (Ocean of Kiwa) it eludes to the sea as a highway that connects the many islands. Like highways - turapa connect the space between worlds.
