This self-portrait is an homage to Rene Magritte's Son of Man, Man in the Bowler Hat, and The Great War of the Facades.

In a radio interview with Jean Neyens (1965), Magritte said in describing Son of Man:
"At least it hides the face partly well, so you have the apparent face, the apple, hiding the visible but hidden, the face of the person. It's something that happens constantly. Everything we see hides another thing, we always want to see what is hidden by what we see. There is an interest in that which is hidden and which the visible does not show us. This interest can take the form of a quite intense feeling, a sort of conflict, one might say, between the visible that is hidden and the visible that is present."

In this digital age, we often find ourselves using avatars as masks to represent us, to shield or obscure our identity, to express our mood, to reflect the topic of the room. In this case, I prefer to let my art be my reflection just as the photographer likes being behind the camera.

This art piece will be on exhibit at NFT.NYC in SearchLight by NFTs.Tips' Mask Ephemera exhibition to be showcased in The Edison Ballroom and Palladium Center in Times Square, NYC in November 2021.
