Story:

Ayr

Introducing "Ayr", this piece was taken in March, 2022. It was created during our (my partner and I) 4 days road trip around North Wales. The northern part of Wales have many beautiful scenic spots that have really caught my eyes when I first researched into that part of the region on Google Earth. I was so impressed by some of the beauty spots that North Wales have to offer I decide to booked a few days of hotel nearby Bangor (a Welsh town) and embarked on a 150 miles journey to Wales with my partner. One of many spots we visited during the trip was Point of Ayr Lighthouse on the north coast of Wales.

Standing at 18m tall, the lighthouse is situated along the Talacre beach and sits proudly in the middle of the sea when the tides are high.

We visited Point of Ayr lighthouse on the first day and the final day of our 4 days road trip. On the first day of visit, as we drove pass the lighthouse, we stopped by to spend a few hours walking along the beach, enjoy the fresh air and scenery it has to offer. We saw a few locals and dog walkers but overall the beach was a very quiet spot for a day out. I took a few photos and try to find the angles and exact framing I want and once I have found the angles I was happy with, it was just the matter of going back when the night falls to create light painting art.

On the final day of our mini road trip, we drove back to visit the Point of Ayr lighthouse. The weather was calm, lack of wind and clear sky meant that it was the perfect condition to create the photos I had in mind. I went back to the same spot where I visited on the first day, as my partner wanders around the beach and enjoy the peaceful night. I set up the camera, tripod and the drone as I normally do, the tides at the time were low, so I was able to get close enough to the lighthouse to see how close the drone was to the lighthouse. Nevertheless, there were still some element of risk involved, so I had to proceed with caution. Throughout the whole shooting process, I was running up and down the beach to my camera to press the button and then next to the lighthouse to co-ordinate the flying path of the drone.

After an hour or so photographing at the lighthouse, I flew the drone back to safety with sigh relief. As I sat back and enjoy the calm and clear beautiful dark sky with my partner at the beach, I can't help but think that it's night like this that make what I do worth the while.

The collector will have the option to receive a 40x60cm physical printed version for this piece.
