AFTER is a 4-minute-long animation, traversing a barren, industrial landscape. Its themes respond to sci-fi tropes and fears of new technologies. The production of AFTER began in April 2021, in response to some of the hopes and uncertainties surrounding the rise of NFTs. The animation evokes these expectations and fears at play with many new digital technologies, as well as the complex relationships between the digital and the physical. AFTER is conceived as an open-ended work – particularly, open to the viewer’s interpretation. The film can be read as optimistic or pessimistic; it is structured as an endless loop and omits key parts of the narrative, to be filled in by the audience. AFTER is also informed by classic dystopian sci-fi films like Brazil by Terry Gilliam or Soylent Green by Richard Fleischer, where civilians are misled to believe in false narratives and solutions by those in power.

The soundtrack of AFTER was created by LNS, a Berlin-based producer & DJ originally from Calgary, CA, who has been an integral part of building Vancouver's underground music community. LNS DJing reflects influences rooted in Detroit and UK Techno, Braindance, and Electro, influences which are also apparent in her musical production (Wania, Freakout Cult, LNS, Tresor).
