Digital Fabric Swatch for My Valentine, 2021

My Valentine is a reinterpretation and appreciation of historical paintings through a modern lens with digital tools (Procreate).

The first emoji were created in 1999 by artist Shigetaka Kurita - Kurita worked on the development team for “i-mode” (an early internet mobile platform from Japan’s main mobile carrier DOCOMO). DOCOMO’s goal was to find new ways to express information, the emoji offered a way to add emotional subtext to a message.

The Fox Face 🦊 emoji was approved and added to Emoji 3.0 in 2016.

Seen: Costume inspired by A Portrait of a Lady in a Black Hat, Edouard Bisson, 1895
