Sitting together at the ocean’s edge in July 2015, I noticed Pepper simply gazing into the sunset with no apparent worries and no rush to do anything more exciting, and I suddenly wondered… Do dogs enjoy looking at pretty scenery, too? Do our fellow companions contemplate the beauty of their surroundings? Do they feel the contentment of simply being in a magical moment, watching the light soften as the sun sinks over the horizon? Why, yes, I think they do. I actually snapped this image on my phone to commemorate the moment (and edited it in Adobe Lightroom later). Since then, I frequently notice Pepper gazing dreamily into the majesty of nature’s scenery, and it reminds me to slow my mind and do the same.

Pepper the Majestic Mutt by Elizabeth Gadd collection image

10 years ago I unexpectedly came home from the local dog shelter with a 5 month old scruffy mutt, born and raised within the shelter walls and completely unexposed to the great outdoors. Pepper, shy and timid yet curious to see the world, instantly attached himself to my side and became my most loyal companion and adventure partner from day 1. Fast forward 10 years, to this day you can still find us regularly scrambling up mountain peaks, squishing ourselves into a kayak together, romping through the woodlands, backpacking for days into the wilderness, sharing a muddy tent or sleeping bag, and road-tripping across countries all while capturing these moments of joy from our adventures to share with the world. Pepper’s characteristic Majestic Mutt images have accumulated a large following across the globe over the years, and we hope that these images can continue to inspire others to also pursue the beauty and joy of friendship and adventure with their own loyal, furry companions. We will be donating 50% of all proceeds from this series back into reputable dog rescues (25% to our local rescue and 25% to animal rescues in Ukraine at this time). This way we hope to help the next majestic mutts out there embark on their own new journeys.
