The Honu Collection #7: Buried Honu
Artist: Jason O'Rourke
May 2019
Edition: 1/1 NFT
License: Extended Editorial

Olivia-Dawn, also known as L2, the second recognized regular basker at Oahu's Laniakea Beach, seems to have dug a bit of a hole for herself. Resting at the water line, Honu come on shore to bask in Hawaii for reasons that aren't quite understood. One theory is that they use the heat of the sun to help them digest the limu seaweed they eat. In this case, Olivia-Dawn may be using the sand to shield herself from some of the sun's direct rays.

The Honu Collection is curated from almost 20 years living in Hawaii. I photographed these Honu (Hawaiian green sea turtles) on Oahu, Maui, Kauai, and the Big Island.

I volunteer with several non-profits focused on education, conservation, and outreach for Hawaii’s endangered wildlife, including Mālama i nā Honu, which works with these Honu.

A portion of the proceeds from each sale will be donated to Mālama i nā Honu to provide resources for their conservation efforts. This helps ensure that these beautiful green sea turtles are around for future generations to experience.

Extended Editorial License: NFT holder is free to display privately and in groups, including virtual galleries, documentaries, and essays by the NFT holder, as long as the NFT creator is credited.
