In. Out. The inhalation of what is good and the exhalation of what is bad. To inspire or expire is not thought about but is automatic. From birth we do it and will not stop until we die. The tides and waves follow this pattern. Pulling in and pushing out. Never ending.
The earth is a living body. It breathes. The planet on which we live is full of life thanks to the constant respiration of our planet. Replenishing oxygen, absorbing carbon dioxide, enriching the soil, and cleaning the air to sustain life. Without this process, the vital systems of the earth would begin to fail. Taking care of this body is just as necessary as taking care of our own.
Inspired by my undergrad research over the last two years studying the impact of secondhand smoke, vaping, and air pollution on lung physiology, this collection explores the similarities between our own pulmonary physiology and the landscapes of our beautiful earth. Through these images, we will explore the various mechanisms and structures of the lungs. Combining both the right brain and the left brain to enhance our understanding of our connection to this earth.
