Icelandic language has many words to describe the same thing, and Eldsumbrot is one of the multiple way to talk about an eruption.

Interestingly, Google translate that word to “fire metabolism” which I found very profound despite Icelanders telling me that it just means eruption.

And after experiencing the third eruption in three years here, I felt something special this time. I was sitting up close to the crater, between two drone batteries (still at a safe distance from the smoke and the lava but close enough). I was enjoying watching the fire show, getting lost in my thoughts.

There I could feel the rhythm of the volcano from its surface roar to the deep vibrations inside the planet’s crust and it felt like I was listening to earth’s powerful heart beat… My entire body was vibrating with what seems like Gaia’s fire metabolism and I believe a deep connection happened at that moment. I will remember it for the rest of my life.
