An impromptu road trip on a Sunday afternoon, with no real photography plans, turned into an amazing little adventure and I couldn’t have asked for better conditions to photograph during sunset.

The New Forest can be a place of utter solitude, especially after a stressful week working. It’s a location in which to unwind, inspire happiness and truly unplug from the modern world for a while.

Just before leaving for the day, I noticed some pretty epic storm clouds building on the horizon. This had the potential of a storm and sunset combination and a scenario I couldn’t let pass me by.

I stayed for the next three or four hours, throwing caution to the wind, standing in open fields, with lightning, driving rain and thunder all around me.

I continued to shoot till darkness and with a broad smile across my face. These are the moments that excite me, the adrenaline rush, capturing these unique occasions and all the time being completely in awe of nature’s true power.
