Mile after mile I travel across the Great Plains in search of turbulent skies. Often, sleeping in my truck or under the stars. A day forever etched in my memory didn’t come from one of these long multi state treks. In fact, I woke up and went to sleep in my own bed. This sunset thunderstorm exploded near my hometown and slowly drifted south. The storm and I danced across the countryside taking turns leading. Finally, outside of Fort Sumner at sunset, we met head-to-head. As bolts were landing all around, and the sky was raining fire, I stood there in awe of the beauty before me. To this day I’ve never witnessed a sunset that matched the one I witnessed on this lonely road.
