In August of 2013, GitHub began generating Identicons for users without a Gravatar. Identicons are simple 5×5 "pixel" sprites generated using a hash of the user's ID. The algorithm walks through the hash and turns pixels on or off depending on even or odd values.

The generated pattern for this Identicon, combined with its hash-determined color values, was first tokenized on Namecoin on March 19, 2015, by u/zekaf. The Namecoin blockchain is the first fork of Bitcoin. That makes this NFT one of the first algorithmically generated profile pictures tokenized on a blockchain.

Unfortunately, only 7 Identicon pfps were ever tokenized on Namecoin, making this Identicon an extremely rare, highly scarce, and sought-after NFT relic.
