I turned 32 today. The subject tree in this photograph is more than ten times my age. It helps to put into perspective just how short and precious our lives are.
I had always wanted to create a forest image that incorporates flowers. When we stumbled across these bunchberries (also known as false dogwood) we were ecstatic! It was July, which typically doesn’t see a ton of fog in the forests. Luck was on our side and pretty much all the elements were in place to create one of my strongest forest images ever.
When I sat down to come up with a title for this image, at first I wanted to call it “Everlasting.” But nothing in this image is close to long lasting. The tree, while hundreds of years old, will eventually die. The fog will fade, and the flowers will wilt.
So I called it “Neverlasting.” Sure it’s not a word, but I think it works!
