L2 Blocks were upgraded to improve the accuracy of information returned by Solidity functions like block.number, block.timestamp, and blockhash. This change aimed to enhance user experience by providing faster soft confirmations for transactions on wallets and block explorers, addressing community concerns. To ensure a smooth transition, a migration process was implemented, gradually aligning block.number with L2 block production speed, introducing "virtual blocks" during the transition.
