Day #5/365
Dlawr: Photo a Day 2024
One of my favorite photographers is Vivian Maier . Her story is like many artists. She didn't become known until years after she passed away. But, her work is one of a kind. A couple of years ago I took a solo trip to Paris. I was at a bar with some new friends and one of them told me that there was a Vivian Maier exhibit. Not only was it on display, but the next day was the last day to visit!
What were the chances of being in Paris on the last day of one of my favorite photographer's exhibits? It was destined to be. I waited in a long line outside the venue, in the rain, for over an hour.
Why do I mention her? A huge part of her work was self portraiture. Self portraits are one of my least favorite things. I hate being on the spot. But I think as artists its important to also spotlight ourselves and not only have the lens pointed at others. Art is meant for introspection and artists especially have the tools to introspect.
So, Vivian, this ones for you. Thanks for all you've done for photography and the world at large.. I hope this is just one of many more to come.
My name is David. I am a portrait photographer from Orlando, Fl.
This project is a continuation of a series I started in 2022.
For all of 2024, I will be making and minting one photo a day for an entire year. It will be a mix of portraits, candids, and day-to-day life as I see it.
Unless otherwise noted, all images will be shot on my Canon Mark Iv and edited in Lightroom. All are minted on a custom Manifold contract. I've put my heart into this and hope you will enjoy it.
