Hunter Stockton Thompson (July 18, 1937 - February 20, 2005) was an American writer and journalist, the founder of gonzo journalism. He first gained fame with the publication of the book Hells Angels (1967), for which he spent a year living and riding with the Hells Angels motorcycle Club to write a first-hand account of the lives and experiences of its members.
Films were made based on his books "Where the Bison Roams", 1980 - directed by Art Linson "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas", 1998 - directed by Terry Gilliam Hunter Thompson starred in a short episode of this film. "Rum Diary", 2011 (Rum Diary) - directed by Bruce Robinson
