The Moment I Knew He Didn't Love Me

It was one of those passionate loves. Passion is a powerful emotion that makes it so different from your average kind of love. When you feel passion, you feel alive, happy, excited, euphoric, and driven – all at once.

The ups and downs were there, and every time there was a down, I would notice something wasn’t quite right, yet something would keep me there. Hope. I straddled a line in the middle during this relationship. I was hopeful that it would work out, yet knowing it wouldn’t change.

Every argument turned into a fight. I was never as anxious, jealous, insecure, unstable, confused, or restless as I was when I was in these fights. A passionate and abusive relationship is different. It literally takes your entire being. If I did something wrong, I was punished. I don’t remember ever crying so much around a person.

I realized during our last fight that I should never have to request respect, kindness and compassion from my partner. I realized that is not love or friendship.

The moment I knew he didn’t love me was the moment I knew I would be okay on my own. So I chose myself and left.

About the image - I remember editing this image after we had a bad fight. It was a surreal feeling working on this creation that is supposed to represent growth, while on the inside, I was so anxiously tied up in turmoil. The opposite of growth.

I felt a strong sensation of loneliness as I worked on this image, but I knew I would be okay alone. Now when I look at this image I see the Yellow Dress unafraid of growth and conquering it alone.
