Ben Katz

Ben Katz is a New York City based mixed-media artist and entrepreneur. Always exploring new techniques and mediums, his work is constantly breaking new ground. Katz works with a number of different materials including repurposed tech and a wide variety of found objects. Most recently, Katz has been working with antique findings enveloped in pigmented encaustics, which, when combined, create complex, painterly three dimensional assemblages. His work is a direct reflection of his multifaceted life and is heavily influenced by the ever-evolving digital world and humanity’s increasingly symbiotic relationship with technology. Katz sees his work as social commentary and uses it as an outlet for his often controversial opinions on modern life.

Ben Katz was mentored by the New York pop artist James Rizzi prior to his death in December of 2011. Katz credits Rizzi with encouraging him to channel his many interests and talents into a bourgeoning artistic practice. Katz soon had his first solo show, “Robots of Unusual Size” in June 2012 at the Fe Gallery in Pittsburgh, PA. The exhibition received critical acclaim and Katz’s work was subsequently featured on the front page of the Pittsburgh Tribune. Due to the increased attention and demands following this show, while still dealing with the loss of his mentor and most trusted advisor, Katz decided to no longer participate in gallery shows and only show and sell his work directly to private collectors.

In March of 2016, after an extended hiatus, Katz met Georges Berges, immediately finding a kindred spirit in the art dealer. In June of 2016 Katz had a solo show at the Georges Berges Gallery in Soho which was an overwhelming sucess. Katz is now working on a new body or work and with a number of differnet galleries for exhibtions in New York and Internationally. 벤 카츠는 2011년 12월에 사망하기 전 뉴욕 팝 아티스트 제임스 리지(James Rizzi)로부터 멘토를 받았습니다. 카츠는 리지가 자신의 다양한 관심사와 재능을 창조적인 실천으로 이어지도록 격려한 덕분에 예술적 실력을 발전시킬 수 있었습니다. 이어서 2012년 6월에 피츠버그의 Fe 갤러리에서 첫 개인전 '비범한 크기의 로봇들(Robots of Unusual Size)'을 개최하였고, 전시회는 평론가들로부터 큰 호평을 받았으며 카츠의 작품은 이후 피츠버그 트리뷰 뉴스의 표지에 소개되었습니다.

이러한 전시회로 인해 더 많은 관심과 수요가 발생하였지만, 멘토의 상실에 아직 고심하고 있던 카츠는 갤러리 전시에 더 이상 참가하지 않기로 결정하고 자신의 작품을 개인 수집가에게 직접 전시하고 판매하기로 했습니다. 2016년 3월, 오랜 휴식 끝에 카츠는 조지스 버제와 만나 예술 딜러와 유대감을 느꼈습니다. 2016년 6월에는 카츠가 소호의 조지스 버제 갤러리(Georges Berges Gallery)에서 개인전을 가지며 폭발적인 성공을 거두었습니다. 현재 벤 카츠는 뉴욕 및 국제적으로 다양한 갤러리들과 새로운 작업들에 대해 협업 중입니다. 또한 벤 카츠는 마이애미의 ATO 갤러리와 NFT를 위해 Flipkick.io에서도 작품을 소개하고 있습니다. 앞으로 예정된 전시회와 이벤트에 대한 자세한 정보를 문의해 주시기 바랍니다.
