A muse is a person, usually a woman, who is the object of love or devotion and is seen as a source of inspiration. The term derives from Greek mythology, when Zeus' daughters reigned over the arts and sciences as the nine Muses. A muse is said to give an artist with a source of inspiration, yet this 'source' might take many different forms.
