'The Chariot' is the 7th Major Arcana trump within the Tarot card decks. The card element of this animation was originally a hand-drawn artwork, produced upon an ultra black carbon nanotube coated sheet of aluminium. The resulting animation is a parody of the modern Gallery space; a satire about the mystification and packaging of Art for the purpose of commodification.
About the artist
Robert McNally is an artist known for his cram-a-universe-into-an-atom pencil drawings. His constructions evoke a unique form of anachronistic/abstracted storytelling that feeds on the paradox, the surreal, and the subconscious. They draw upon a vast array of historical references, memes and tropes, and oscillate somewhere between plausibility and implausibility, fascination and repulsion, authenticity and fakery. His works feature in prominent public and private collections, and have been exhibited internationally.
Freak Show is a group exhibition featuring 13 artists curated by Ganbrood & Georg Bak. The forward for the exhibition is written by Kenny Schachter.
Super Freak
'Am I weird, strange, sexually deviant, or eccentric? My whole adult life I’ve been referred to as crazy. And worse. As Rick James sang in 1981, “I’m a super freak, a super freak. I’m super freaky” (was he ever). In actuality, Why is it that anything (or anyone) out of the ordinary is ostracised, marginalised, made to feel like a pariah? Thinking differently should be encouraged and affirmed but is often viewed as a red flag pigeonholing those that dare to dwell beyond societal norms as aberrant. Human comportments of all stripes should be celebrated, as long as you’re not responsible for someone ending up in scraps hidden under the floorboards...'-Kenny Schachter
