As a child I heard a myth that you can see the stars during daylight from the bottom of a deep enough well or gorge... it is a complete myth, with no basis at all in truth, the only star we can see during daylight is our sun.

This did get me to wondering what the night sky would look like from the bottom of a gorge though. I spent a considerable amount of time in research to find the right time of year and the right gorge to get the milky way to line up with the opening so I could take a photograph from the bottom of it, looking straight up at the stars.

This video is the result of that search, taken from the bottom of a gorge in the Pilbara region of Western Australia.

It is the motion version of "Eye to the Galaxy" found here on Foundation and part of the same Imagine Collection.
