The Inspiration:
After studying poetry in college, I forged ahead with a surprising career in poker. This poem explores how it can be advantageous to arrive late at our true destination—even though others may look down upon us along the way.
The Poem:
This piece is meticulously composed in the form of an American sonnet—a fourteen line poem with a rapid progression of theme in the last two lines. It speaks of how people can become preoccupied with time and miss out on the full breadth of experience.
The Photograph:
The backdrop is an image of my favorite magnolia tree, in my backyard, in bloom. I distilled the photo into a minimalist picture in order to best compliment the overlaid sonnet.
The Narration:
While this piece includes my narration, it is also recommended to mute my voice and speak the words yourself. To do so is to embody this poem, and you become the art.
