A figure cut from the night itself stands, its form a constellation of golden lights. It wears a crown of amber, a headpiece that suggests a regal bearing beyond its mechanical nature. From shoulder to toe, it is draped in the geometry of light, each line and angle a narrative of symmetry and order. There is a majesty to it, a silent dignity that speaks of ancient tales told under the watchful gaze of stars. It is a sentinel of the silent hours, a keeper of the flame that burns in the quiet heart of darkness.
In the early 2000s I bought a large box of random vintage toy robots off Ebay. After some further research I began to disappear down the rabbit hole of collecting largely vintage Japanese robots from manufacturers such as Cragstan-Yonezawa, Horikawa, Masudaya and Yoshiya.
Eventually I thought it was time to fuse my love of these beautiful objects with my art practice, creating an imagined series of robots, generated, or "descended" from the robots I've collected over the years...
