“‘Vectoria’ starts with a rhythmic snap made with a custom-made patch I use a lot in Reaktor, a programming sound environment similar to Max/MSP—basically a modular synthesizer in software. The patch can create rhythms based on feedback chains, which suddenly open and release moments of sound and then close down again. It was an odd grid that, surprisingly, was able to produce overlapping polyrhythms if you keep tweaking the feedback input carefully. What excited me was that I could produce ever-new, unexpected rhythmic variations. Once I had the form and the harmonic and melodic personality down, I started cutting things in, rearranging, adding counteracting moments, and playing tricks with them. ‘Vectoria’ is a kind of glowing opening scene to the whole Polyarrythmia narration.” — Jan St. Werner
