Divorce changes you as a lover. It teaches you things you may not learn without breaking apart. Guilt hung over my head for many years following my divorce, but over time I learned how to turn my broken marriage into a lesson about becoming the type of partner I want to be. A life partner is a best friend and it is our duty to selflessly take care of the ones who care deeply about us.

The Yellow Ribbon is inspired by the classic 1973 song - Tie A Yellow Ribbon Round The Ole Oak Tree by Tony Orlando & Dawn.

The song sketches the story of a convict riding the bus homeward after three years in prison. He tells the bus driver that he has written letters to his sweetheart asking her to tie a yellow ribbon on a roadside oak tree if she will have him back into her life. The driver relates the story to other passengers and as the bus nears the tree everyone is on the edge of their seats. As the tree comes into view, the convict, unable to bear the sight should there be no ribbon in its branches, hides his eyes. Then a massive cheer goes up and he looks to see that, in fact, the tree is covered with hundreds of yellow ribbons.

Collection: You Had Me at Yellow - Chapter 3 - #11 out of 12

How do I take these self-portraits?
They are a combination of 2 images. I take one shot of the overall scene which is typically a long exposure shot to smooth out any water and clouds in the sky. I then take a second shot of myself as the subject and combine them together in photoshop. Since I am often adding a long exposure technique to my images, I can't pose for more than a few seconds without visible movement in my hair or dress. I use a remote on my phone that connects to my camera to take the photo.
