Built between 906 and 1908 as the starting station of the Istanbul - Baghdad Railway line and put into service in 1908, the use of Haydarpaşa Station as a station building dates back to the 1870s. It was completed in 1873.
Haydarpaşa, built by two German architects, is called a neo-classical building. Haydarpaşa Station, which is spread over an area of 3 thousand 836 square metres in total, has 5 floors.
In 2010, as a result of a sudden fire, most of the roof of Haydarpaşa Station was burnt and renovation works are continuing.
