"Real History Art" - RHA004
Alexander the Great, was a king of the ancient Greek kingdom of Macedonia and a member of the Argead dynasty. He was tutored by Aristotle during his youth and became a great intellectual.
Alexander endeavored to reach the "ends of the world and the Great Outer Sea" (India) and forged one of the biggest empires in history. His legacy includes the cultural diffusion and syncretism which his conquests engendered.
He was undefeated in battle and has become the measure against which many military leaders compare themselves. Military academies throughout the world still teach his tactics and he is often ranked among the most influential people in human history
His closest friend was his general Hephaestion. It was a friendship which had been forged in boyhood. It endured through adolescence, through Alexander's becoming king, and through the hardships of campaigning and the flattering of court life and their marriages. One can only wonder whether it was more than friendship....!
(In the background, a painting of Alexander entering the doors of Babylon upon his victory - By Charles Le Brun).
